Highway Review:
Interstate 40 is the main east-west interstate through Oklahoma. It spans eight states and 2,554 miles on its cross-country trek from Barstow, California to Wilmington, North Carolina. Interstate 40 has 331 miles in the Sooner State, and parallels old U.S. 66 (current OK 66) until Oklahoma City.

Crossing the state line from Texas Exit 1 immediately greets you. It serves the small border town of Texola. The first business loop of I-40 spans between Exits 5 and 11 and serves the town of Erick. I-40 continues heading mostly east until Sayre at mile marker 20 then it starts heading northeast for about 10 miles. Sayre, the county seat of Beckham County, has exits for U.S. 283 (Exit 20), OK 152 (Exit 23), Bus. Loop I-40 (Exit 25), and Cemetery Rd. (Exit 26). Enterning Elk City (pop. 10,510) just six miles later, OK 34 joins Interstate 40 at Exit 32. Interstate 40 and OK 34 are together for nine miles throughout Elk City. The two highways have exits for Merritt Rd. (Exit 34), OK 6 (Exit 38), E. 7th St. (Exit 40), and OK 34 North/Bus. Loop I-40 West. (Exit 41)

Interstate 40 continues heading east towards Clinton (pop. 8,833). For 24 miles between Elk City and Clinton there is just one exit to a state highway, and that is Exit 53 for OK 44. In Clinton, home of the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, has exits for Bus. Loop I-40 East (Exit 65), 10th St./Neptune Dr. (Exit 65A), U.S. 183 (Exit 66), and Exit 69 (Bus. Loop I-40 West). Just 11 miles later, Interstate 40 enters Weatherford (pop. 9.859), the home of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Another business loop is present in Weatherford. Weatherford has exits for OK 54 (Exit 80), Bus. Loop I-40 East (Eastbound only-Exit 80A), Bus. Loop I-40 West/E. Main St. (Exit 82), and Airport Rd. (Exit 84).

After Weatherford, I-40 heads towards El Reno, Yukon, and the Oklahoma City metro area. Exit 88 (OK 58) serves Hydro. Exit 101 (U.S. 281/OK 8) serves Hinton, which is four miles south of the interstate. A recently-built truck stop and hotel complex is located at this exit. Spur U.S. 281 begins at Exit 108, and U.S. 270 joins Interstate 40 eastbound at Exit 115. Entering El Reno, there are exits for Bus. Loop I-40 (Exit 119), Country Club Rd. (Exit 123), and U.S. 81/Bus. Loop I-40 (Exit 125). Between El Reno and Yukon, there are two exits for local roads-Exit 130 serves Banner Rd., and Exit 132 serves Cimarron Rd. and the C.E. Page Airport.
