Highway History:
OK 8 has had the same route for at least the last 50 years.
Highway Review:
The first major town along OK 8 is
Anadarko, where it heads west with U.S. 62 and OK 9 for
six-tenths of a mile. After that, the highway heads north with U.S. 281,
and the two highways are duplex for 62 miles.
During this stretch, the two highways head through Gracemont,
Binger, Lookeba, Hinton, Geary, and Greenfield before splitting
in southwest Watonga. In Okeene, home of a yearly rattlesnake
festival, OK 8 intersects OK 51. Nine miles east of Fairview, OK
8 joins OK 58 and the highways head west. In Fairview, OK 8 heads
north with U.S. 60 and six miles later the highway joins U.S. 412. East of Carmen, OK 45
joins OK 8 for a three-mile stretch. U.S. 64 also joins OK 8 for
9 miles. OK 58 is co-signed with U.S. 64 at this point. At the
same point where U.S. 64 heads west on its own, OK 8/58 gains OK
11. OK 58 heads off on its own seven miles later, but OK 8 and OK
11 head west together for seven more miles before splitting. OK 8
finally heads north on its own for its final seven miles in
Oklahoma. OK 8 then heads into Kansas and becomes KS 8, which
itself ends just a few miles later at KS 2/14.
