Highway History:
OK 36 once went as far north as Fort Sill. According to the official Oklahoma
state map from 1953, the highway was duplexed with U.S. 277 and U.S. 281 from OK
36's current northern terminus to the corner of 11th & Bishop, then OK 36 went
north on Fort Sill Blvd. to its northern end. Actually, the official state maps
still show OK 36 in Lawton, even though the highway has not gone that far north
for several years!
Highway Review:
OK 36 begins just north of the Texas State Line at
Interstate 44 Exit 1. It runs north on its own for four miles
then it goes west with U.S. 70 for 10 miles before heading north
again in Grandfield. It heads north for 14 miles and OK 5 joins
the highway for a mile south of Chattanooga. Just west of
Chattanooga, the highway heads east. Sixteen miles later, OK 36
ends at Interstate 44 just south of Lawton.
